1. Why are you called Manta Ray?

The Manta Ray is a superorder of cartilaginous fish and we're in awe of it, its beautiful form, the way it flies under water. To this day, not much is known about the Ray, it's almost a "thing from another world"... and for a lot of readers, especially in India, comics too are things from another world. Also the Peruvian Moche people worshipped Manta Rays and depicted it in their art and...

Hey you mean you really want to know?

It's just a name we really liked amongst all the names we came up with. :)

Since we are at it, why don't you take a look at some hungry Mantas on the Nat Geo site?

2. What is the difference between a comic book and a graphic novel?

When Will Eisner first coined the term 'graphic novels' many years ago, he did it so that comics would find more respectability amongst the publishers whom he approached. Essentially, graphic novels are comics... but the term is used, even today, mostly for respectability... to suggest that the story being told is of a mature/ serious nature... and also, more importantly, to suggest that it has a longer story arc than the usual 22- 24 pages that a comic book issue contains.

But it is the same medium, it uses the combination of pictures and words, so essentially, there is not much of a difference... that's our take on this.

3. I have written a review about ‘Hush’, what do I do with it?

We'd love to hear what you think about Hush! You could host it on your site or blog, of course, and post the link on our facebook page. You could also send it to hello@mantaraycomics.com

4. Does Manta Ray offer subscriptions?

Yes, we will be having subscriptions for our upcoming series of titles.

5. Do you guys have a newsletter?

We're working on this, and will soon be coming out with one.

6. I have a story idea which I think can be made into a comic book

Do send us a short synopsis of the story along with 8 - 12 pages of the script... along with sketches, artwork, illustrated pages - if any

7. We have a fantastic graphic novel ready to print. Would you be interested?

Yes, definitely! Do send us a synopsis of the story and a short excerpt from the book, and we'll get back to you :)

8. I am a writer/artist/illustrator, would you be able to hire me?

We are always on the lookout for talent creators... but we mostly work on a freelance/ commission basis.f you are a writer, then you could send us a brief synopsis of your story idea along with 8 - 12 pages of a script excerpt.

If you are an artist/ illustrator, then you could send us 3 (or more) pages of a comic book story. Please do not send us pin-ups, character design sketches etc. What is most important for a comic book artist is the ability to tell a story, sequentially.

Manta Ray respects the rights of creators... so every single piece of writing & artwork will belong to the creators.

9. I want to study about comics professionally?

In India, comics & sequential art are taught as part of the Communication Design disciplines at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad (NID) and the Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology, Bangalore. The Savannah College of Art & Design, USA offers both UG & PG courses in sequential art.

10. What's next from Manta Ray?

:) We are very excited about our next project... and will be announcing it very soon. Keep checking our blogs and newsletter to know it first!
